About us

Daugai is situated on a peninsula in a lake of the same name. In the historical sources, the parish school was mentioned in 1777. There was only elementary school till 1944’s. Then it was reorganised into the progymnasium, and in 1947, the gymnasium was established. In the year 1949, the school got the secondary school status.

 

Daugai secondary school is the biggest general secondary school  in Alytus district.  There are 450 students, 42 teachers. Our graduates achieve good results every year; 80-90% of students enter the different universities of Lithuania. A lot of students participate successfully in different contests, achieve brilliant results in sport competitions.

The students have the possibility to join 42 different clubs or groups in our school (74,8% of students enrolled). 22,7% of students have joined the clubs which are organised by other institutions.

 

In 2002, the museum “Dzūkiška pirkia” was set up. It represents Lithuanian traditions, historical past. Our school has its own magazines “Savas“ and “Saviukas“. The members of the “Photo–Video Club” take pictures of the most interesting and important moments happening in our school.

 

There are two computer classes in our school. Currently, the school has 60 computers. Besides, the students can spend their free time in the library’s reading-room, where they also have the possibility to use the computers.  The library is the centre providing information for all the community of our school.
